Kenya: here is our school!

Our new school will be in Mathare, close to one of the largest slums of the city, and it is in a unique  location to reach the children who are searching for a different future. Refugee children in this area come from many nationalities and countries such as Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, the Great Lakes and South Sudan. The most disadvantaged Kenyan children will also attend and can easily and safely walk to the building.

Our next step is adapting the building to the international standards and setting up a school that will become a home for the students we will welcome. In fact, our project also plans to host some children as residents in our school.

Kenya currently has the second largest refugee population, after Ethiopia, in the continent of Africa. There are around 495,000 refugees and 53.6% of them are children. Because of distance, lack of infrastructure, socio-economic reasons, cultural and traditional expectations, almost the 50% of refugee children don’t have access to education and only 1/6 of them have access to high school.

Our project aims to contribute to the reversal of this trend and, above all, to offer the opportunity of access to high-level education that could make a real difference for some of them.  We change the world together, one child at a time.
