The Education Specialist (Academies) ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality education across Still I Rise Academies, aligned with the organization’s 4 Pillars and Educational Model. This role provides strategic oversight, curriculum leadership, teacher training, and daily or consistent operational management to strengthen academic excellence, empower school leadership, and drive impactful learning outcomes.
The Education Specialist plays a critical role in shaping the quality of teaching and learning across Still I Rise Academies (Yemen, Syria and DRC with South Sudan opening soon). Overall these schools have over 280 students and 20 teachers. Working under the guidance of the Head of Education, the Education Specialist is responsible for the strategic oversight of the education programs in the Academies, building teacher capacity, developing contextualised curriculum materials, and ensuring consistent implementation of the Still I Rise Educational Model.
The ideal candidate will bring strong knowledge in curriculum creation for students ages 9 and above, a passion for teacher development, and an adaptable, context-sensitive approach to education in diverse and challenging environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Oversight
- Design, evolve, and safeguard the Still I Rise Educational Model, ensuring adherence to this across Academies.
- Align all Academies with curriculum goals, national requirements, and the SIR pedagogical approach.
- Educational Operations Management
- Oversee daily educational operations across Academies, including lesson planning, calendars, appraisals, and curriculum review.
- Support Education Officers with supervision, coaching, and targeted interventions.
- Monitor data on teacher performance, student outcomes, and program effectiveness to inform decision-making.
- Prepare and disseminate progress reports for internal and global teams.
- Curriculum development and oversight
- In collaboration with the Education Officers and teachers in each school, lead the development and review of curriculum materials aligned with national requirements and the SIR Education Method.
- Create sample 5E-based lesson plans and model units to serve as benchmarks.
- Oversee curriculum alignment, lesson planning, and assessment frameworks across sites
- Teacher Training & Professional Development
- Design, coordinate, and deliver ongoing training for teachers across all Academies.
- Support with lesson plan checks, assessment reviews, and implementation of feedback systems.
- Facilitate teacher observations and peer-led training sessions to spread good practices.
- Collaborate with CPS and inclusion teams to support interventions in pedagogy, inclusion, differentiation, and behavior management.
- Mentor Education Officers to empower them to provide targeted coaching and mentoring.
- Teacher Onboarding
- Lead comprehensive onboarding programs at all Academies (orientation week + 10-week integration plan).
- Ensure new teachers are equipped with key curriculum, planning, and classroom strategies from the start.
Essential Skills & Requirements
- Advanced degree in Education or related field (preferred).
- Proven experience in curriculum development and teacher training, ideally in international or low-resource contexts.
- Proven ability to coach, mentor, and inspire teachers in diverse educational contexts.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multiple sites.
- Strong understanding of innovative, values and skills based pedagogies.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, especially in cross-cultural environments.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Experience designing or delivering professional development and mentoring programs.
- Fluency in English; proficient in French and Arabic is a plus.
- Fluency in Google Suite
- Familiarity with digital tools and learning platforms used in global education.
